Works

Shinji Ogawa is a singular artist who creates meticulously constructed paintings grounded in clear conceptual frameworks. By deconstructing and transforming the existing world of representation, he creates unique parallel worlds in which reality and unreality intersect.
His conceptual oil paintings and drawings unfold through systems of disappearance, repetition, and inversion of images. Although executed entirely by hand through astonishingly intricate techniques, the works simultaneously possess structures that evoke digital imagery and algorithmic processes.
Produced through painstakingly meticulous processes, Ogawa’s works explore what may emerge when the details of painting are pushed to their limits. In this sense, his practice can also be understood as a quasi-scientific process of constructing entire worlds from zero through the artist’s own hand.
